God's revealed word tells us in Genesis 1:26, "Then God said, "Let us make man in our image..."" Because of this truth of how we were created, we learn that we each carry the Image of God. (We look like God). Genesis 1:26 goes on to state that we were also made in God's likeness (essence).
So, the revealed word of God reports what in fact happened next in Genesis 1:27, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
In Greek, the word for image is Eikon, or in english spelling, the word is spelled, "icon". Thereby, we find a truth: each of us possesses God's Image. As people of God, we therefore have a responsibility to present ourselves as representatives of His Kingdom and in His Image we carry forth His Holy Will to the best of our abilities. It is a responsibility that we cheerfully carry out in the spirit of Agape (service love).
In Holy Scripture, our Lord Jesus states to us that the law and the prophets are fulfilled by two commandments as set forth in Matthew 22:37-40.
As we go through life with this in mind, we fulfill God's Will in our lives.
